The Athlete Leadership initiative by Special Olympics empowers individuals with intellectual disabilities to become leaders and advocates within the movement and beyond. Through this program, athletes are given opportunities to develop leadership skills, gain confidence, and take on meaningful roles—as spokespersons, coaches, event planners, board members, and mentors.
By participating in structured training sessions and receiving mentorship, Athlete Leaders learn to express their opinions, influence decision-making, and represent the voice of people with intellectual disabilities in their communities
